Blu-ray Review: Costs and Benefits

Just when DVD players and discs were becoming affordable, a new optical disc player came on the scene. It’s called Blu-ray (after the laser that reads and writes the data), and as with any new technology it is expensive when compared with the preceding one.

Is it worth it? The quick and easy answer is that it depends. It depends what you are using it for. There is no question that Blu-ray is a superior technology. The disc alone can carry up to five times more information than the average DVD, which means they can provide hours of special and bonus features on a single disc. They are also quite durable and do not scratch as easily as DVDs.

But any blu-ray review would be incomplete without mentioning the primary selling point — the picture quality. According to experts, Blue-ray delivers a picture that is 6 times better than the standard DVD; even if you don’t have a high-definition television the picture will be improved, dramatically. The standard resolution for a Blu-ray disc is an amazing 1080 pixels. (more...)

Are Home Theatre Systems Worth It?

Over the last century technology has progressed rapidly to make better audio and visual quality accessible to all. Today we view crystal clear images with HDTV, Blu Ray and DVD, and experience the most sublime music right in our own homes.

Home theatre systems and high quality sound systems enable us to enjoy music and films/TV to the utmost. Sound systems comprise of an amp and a set of speakers. The quality of the sound depends on the amplifier as well as the speakers, and where they are placed in the room.

The effect of the same sound system in different rooms is varying, because different spaces have different acoustics. There are many kinds of speakers, and while traditionally players have built in speakers, having free standing speakers around the room can enrich the listening experience. Modern and stylish speakers can also add more panache to a room. (more...)

Professional Home Installation Design

Your home is most likely the single biggest investment that you will make in your life. So, why do so many people procrastinate and put off repairs, additions and remodelling jobs? Well, most of the time they are simply looking for a company or contractor that can do a professional job at a reasonable price. It is also safe to say that most homeowners don't know all that much about home improvement projects or what they should pay.

That is why finding a home installation design professional who can handle all of your needs is imperative. What do they do? As you might expect, home installation design companies offer homeowners an impressive range of services from remodelling to architecture to interior and kitchen design. The right company can handle it all.

Why do you need them? Contrary to popular believe, you don't save money by hiring the cheapest contractors. You save money by calling in a team of experienced professionals who will give you exactly what you want and will save you the time and energy of dealing with incompetents. (more...)

The Importance of LCD HDTVs Refresh Rate

Television sets have been rapidly improving in the last ten years or so. Prior to all of the new innovations, the only thing televisions could really improve on was their size. We went from black and white picture to colour picture and then after that technological change seemed to stop for about 40 years.

Television sets were becoming bigger and more cumbersome. The picture may have been getting bigger but the quality was still nothing like it is today. When high definition television was introduced it completely changed the landscape of TVs.

We now have to consider LCD HDTVs refresh rate and the contrast ratio before we buy a television. The refresh rate for instance is how fast the television can process images on the screen. (more...)

The Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition Universal Player

As we all know consumer goods change all the time. Most of the time companies create new products because they want you to spend your money on them. Sometimes these new products have minimal difference from their predecessor and the consumer can end up paying hundreds of pounds for a disappointing feature feature.

Thankfully not all companies think this way and some even create new products because they believe they are superior to their older models. One such product is the Oppo BDP-83 Special Edition Universal Player . Oppo was not satisfied with the first product they put on the shelf for consumers so they brought this new model out shortly after the first one.

One thing that the BDP-83 specialises in is audio output. Every system has some sort of audio output but this model has more than most. Having the right audio setup can make a dull movie into a great one and vice versa. (more...)

Why Audiophile Music Does Not Sell to the Masses

Music is the one thing that people like to criticise. Everybody has an opinion on what type of music they like to listen to and which artists they prefer. There is one topic that is not talked about too much in the music industry and it has to do with formatting. One format in particular that has not had much success is Audiophile.

There are several reasons Why Audiophile Music Does Not Sell to the Masses and most of them have to do with preference. Audiophile does sound amazing when you have the proper setup, the problem is that getting that right setup is very costly. Most people do not even buy music in its physical format anymore.

One reason that people are staying away is because they would rather download music from a website. Some websites offer songs incredibly cheaply and whole compact discs for a few pounds. (more...)
